Cafeteria...

I slid in to my usual seat, near the back of the cafeteria next to the kitchens. It wasn't assigned, but everyone knew it: the unpopular kids sat there. I sighed and brushed my wispy hair out of my face.

Uh-oh. I guess my powers were acting up again. I really should ask people their names before I talk to them. I could sense that she was scared of me. "I'm Lavinia, but you can call me Lavvie." I say. I hope that she would think that I was just being friendly, and not suspect anything weird about me.

"Yeah." I say. "HOw long have you known?" I ask. I found out a couple of weeks ago, so I was still getting used to it. "How often do they act up for you?" I say.

"Yeah." I say. "Mine sometimes acts up, so I can't tell people's thoughts from their words. Doesn't that happen to you?" I ask. I couldn't stand it if there was more than one type of mind reading in this world. "But didn't people ever think you were... strange? I mean, didn't you answer people's thoughts before you knew the truth?" It happened to me all the time, and until my parents told me, I had thought I'd been going crazy. Luckily the gift is hereditary, so my parents knew all about it.

I danced gracefully through the hallways, weaving through crowds into the cafeteria. I brought my lunch, and sat next to Tony at our usual table, just him and me. I like it like that.
